FLFR’s award-winning program for children and their families is fun-filled, activity packed, and completely FREE, including lunch!

Located on the banks of the beautiful Locust Fork River, KDoR gives kids hands-on experience with the river; registration is REQUIRED to attend the event, to sign the waiver and so that we can determine how much lunch we will serve.

We realize unexpected things happen close to the date of the event. PLEASE CANCEL as soon as you know you won't be able to attend. We usually have a long waiting list, and we hate to waste food because people don't show up.

Follow Friends of the Locust Fork River Facebook and Instagram for updates or last minute notifications.

The week of the event you will receive a reminder email from info@flfral.com with directions to the location and also a phone call. Check your SPAM.

When you register, please enter the total number of participants including adults and children - where it says "Ticket" FREE Select Quantity. Then click "continue".

FLFR is inclusive of all members of the community in our activities and events.

2026 Kid's Day Stations:

Kayaking - learn basic safety rules, how to get in and out of a kayak, how to hold a paddle, and steer a kayak with a paddle. The river is calm enough even for beginners and wide enough for those who have been in a kayak before.

Creepy Critters - Do you ever wonder what kinds of critters are swimming under the water’s surface or hiding under rocks and logs at the river?  Do they look weird to you? Are they creepy or just another wonder to be discovered? Learn all about stream insects, fish and crustaceans that make their lives in the river.

From frogs to snakes: Amphibians and Reptiles of Alabama - Discover reptiles and amphibians  from across Alabama and get hands-on experience surveying various local species.

Birds of Prey

This interactive presentation focuses on the vital role raptors play in the natural world. Learn how to protect these birds of prey and meet a few of them up close.

Water Awareness

“What uses the most water in a home?”

“What is one way your family could reduce water use?”

“Why shouldn’t medicine go down the drain?”

“What happens to water after we use it?”

Swimming - enjoy splashing on the Locust Fork River - Trained adults, along with parents, will provide water safety and FLFR will provide life jackets (or you can bring your own), required for the safety of each child. This will be a great opportunity for kids to experience the river in a very safe setting!
