About Birdy Hour Plovers with Maddy Schwarz

During this Birdy Hour, SFBBO Director of Plover and Tern Science Maddy Schwarz will introduce the Western Snowy Plover and its nesting patterns in the Bay Area. She will then dive into the details of SFBBO's 2025 Snowy Plover Motus radio tagging project, which was the first of its kind. She will explain the basics of Motus technology, its uses in plover research, the process of setting up the equipment, and what we learned from the project. Finally, she will talk about SFBBO's current plans for using Motus tags in 2026.

Maddy Schwarz is Director of Plover and Tern Science at SFBBO and specializes in plover and tern research and conservation. She graduated from UC Davis in 2017 with a Bachelor’s in Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology.
