About Spring Reception 2026

The 2026 Delaware Mayflower Society Spring Reception


Come visit the original studios of renowned illustrator Howard Pyle and see where he founded and taught the "Brandywine School" of artists, including N.C. Wyeth and Frank Schoonover. A brief program on the history and significance of the studios will be shared, and artwork from current studio members will be on display and available for purchase. Reception of tea sandwiches, cookies and punch will be served. Parking available on the street or at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Howard Pyle (1853 – 1911) was an American illustrator, painter, and author best known for his influential books for young readers. Born in Wilmington, Delaware, he later taught at Drexel University and founded the Howard Pyle School of Illustration Art. His students included several prominent artists, and his work-especially The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood and his pirate illustrations – helped shape modern visual storytelling.
