About Tabling Outreach Volunteer Application

The San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory is embarking on a significant effort to expand our community outreach! Our goal is to connect with more people than ever before, sharing our passion for birds and our vital conservation work that protects them and their habitats throughout the Bay Area.

To make this vision a reality, we are looking for volunteers to help at the SFBBO table at community events throughout the year. These are marketing events where people from the public can stop by to find out what SFBBO is all about and pick up brochures, trail guides, and giveaway items such as stickers and buttons. There will also be opportunities for tabling volunteers to lead fun educational activities for adults, kids, or families and share their passion for birds and nature. By expanding our reach and elevating our brand at these events, volunteers will also be helping increase community participation and support.

Volunteers should be professional, outgoing, enthusiastic, and interested in talking with people about birds, habitats, and conservation. They should enjoy teaching people and should also be good listeners who can handoff connections they make to staff for engagement follow-up. New tabling volunteers will go through an orientation and will be paired with other, often more experienced, SFBBO tabling volunteers. An ability to volunteer at a minimum of three events per year is required. Most events are on the weekends, although there will be a few opportunities during week days. Open to individuals ages 16 and older.

Through our new Strategic Plan, we aim to expand the use of our data and research, and engage with other scientific communities and resource-management agencies, to address climate change, habitat loss, and other environmental issues.
