Fat Pocketbook mussel (Potamilus capax) is an endangered species in Missouri. These mussels inhabit large rivers and prefer silt, mud and sand, or sticky mud substrates. Mussels are filter feeders that pump water through their siphons to collect food particles from the water.

Coldwater Crayfish (Faxonius eupunctus) is a species of conservation concern in Missouri. Coldwater Crayfish are found in localized drainages in the Eleven Point and Spring River watersheds in the southern Ozarks. The Coldwater Crayfish has a blue-green head and pincers and a rust-brown carapace (back).l

Niangua Darters (Etheostoma nianguae) are found only in the Niangua River drainage of Missouri, and no-where else in the world. They are in the family Percidae and are related to walleye. They are the only darter species in our state that has two black spots at the base of its tail fin. 

Ozark Hellbenders (Cryptobranchus alleganiensis bishopi) are a species of conservation concern in Missouri and are a federally endangered species. Ozark Hellbenders are only found in the Ozark streams of southern Missouri and northern Arkansas.
