Return to Sharswood

“Return to Sharswood: Reclaiming History Together” is a Juneteenth campaign led by the Sharswood Foundation to preserve, protect, and share the powerful history of Sharswood—once one of the largest tobacco plantations in Southern Virginia.

This campaign is rooted in a deeply personal journey: transforming a site of enslavement into a place of education, remembrance, and community. Through this work, we are committed to ensuring that the stories of those who lived and labored here are honored, told truthfully, and never forgotten.

Funds raised through this campaign directly support the preservation of the property, ongoing historical research, and public programming such as our annual Juneteenth celebration. These efforts allow us to open the doors of Sharswood to the community—creating space for reflection, learning, and connection.
